As a child, I've been used to the idea of having Black Forest as some kind of cake flavor that I've always liked. The sweetness of the cherries and the bittersweet taste of the black chocolate in the sides made up a truly heavenly flavor in my tastebuds.Little did I know back then that a real Black Forest really existed and actually inspired the cake flavor. The cake has its roots in Southern Germany like how the Black Forest I am talking about is located in Southern Germany as well. Of course we all know that Black Forest, Southwestern Germany, happens to be one of the most popular tourist destinations in that side of Europe.
Black Forest, as it name probably implies, is a wooded mountainous region in Baden-Württemberg, southwestern Germany. It is bordered by the Rhine Valley to the west and to the south, and it has an almost perfect rectangular shape. Furthermore, perhaps the most significant river passing through it is the Danube, which rises in this region.
The entrie terrain of the region is mostly composed of pines and firs, making it a very good destination for camping or walking adventures, though because of massive logging, the forest proper is only a fraction of what it used to be before.
Indeed, tourism happens to be one of the region's economic drivers. Black Forest has always been heralded for its beautiful scenery composed of endless forest trees surrounding a big blue lake. Furthermore, due to the region's rich history dating back to the medieval times, the region also has a lot to contribute when it comes to cultural heritage. For example, a number of mines opened during the medieval times are once again opened for public viewing. The surrounding communities have also built a reputation for clock workshops and original cuckoo clocks.
Well, surely, if I only had the time and enough money, I would like to drop by here in Black Forest and feel the cold winds of winter as they touch the smallest of tree branches but, heck, getting there alone would already require a lot of resources.
