Please give us a short summary of your website?
Boomers Offshore is an educational site, aimed at current and future expatriates moving to Costa Rica. Because of my video production skills, we are chronicling our adventures through digital video.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
We wish to educate through example. Through our successes and mistakes, we hope that others seeking to move to Costa Rica can benefit from our experiences.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
My first website was The Browne Pages (www.browneweb.com) and was launched in 1995. It was developed to be a sarcastic and irreverent look at my family.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
The name Boomers Offshore targets anybody meeting the Baby Boomer demographic and who are seeking a life away from the US.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
The content is candid, accurate, opinionated and NOT condescending. I use digital video to tell our story, quickly, efficiently and of course, with an entertaining twist.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
My goal is to inform. Income is not at the forefront but I do plan on selling DVDs at some point in the future.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
This is a difficult question to answer. So far my monetary investment has been negligible. And since I am retired, time is not really an issue.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would make my site very interactive with more Java graphics.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
YES
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
None
What has been your biggest challenge?
Finding time to develop content. I am in the process of relocating right now and it is very challenging having to document the process.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Posting the link on various forums and word of mouth.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It hasn't
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
The site is brand new.
What frustrates you the most about marketing your website?
The inability or reticence of of other webmasters to be reciprocal when adding links to their sites.
What is your website address?
